Introduction to Psychology

Frequently Asked Questions about the Fall 2024 Semester

You've most likely reached this page because you are interested in taking Introduction to Psychology at Johns Hopkins Unviersity in Fall 2024. Here are some questions you might have, followed by our best answers at this time. Please feel free to write to Prof. Firestone with any other Qs.

  1. Who is the instructor for the class?

The instructor for Fall 2024 is Prof. Chaz Firestone. Prof. Firestone was also the instructor from 2017-2021, but sat out for two semesters due to parental leave for these two little boops. It's very exciting to be back!

  2. On SIS, the course is designated "reserved open"; what does that mean?

Introduction to Psychology enrolls nearly 500 students (capped by fire code restrictions for Hodson Hall), and there is typically more demand for the course than there is room. To ensure that students from all class years can participate, we reserve 100 spots for first-year students. The "open" part of "reserved open" means that there are open seats, but the "reserved" part means at least some of them are being held for a specific group. Bottom line: You can register! Just stay on top of things.

  3. Will there still be a course playlist? That's like the main reason I am taking this class.

    How could there not be?

  4. I am on the waitlist. Will I be able to take this class?

Unfortunately we don't know any better than you do whether you'll get off the waitlist! But there is often lots of movement in the first couple of weeks, with dozens of people adding and dropping.

  5. I have extenuating circumstances that will make it difficult to complete my work this semester. What should I do?

We are committed to making this semester as fulfilling, edifying, and accessible as possible — for everyone. If you feel there is something about your situation that will prevent you from thriving in our course, please let us know and we will do whatever we can to accommodate you!

  6. I have another question that wasn't answered here.

No problem! Email your question to Prof. Firestone, and we'll make sure to add it here.
